Yesterday while changing The Little Martin, Julia told me to let him air dry a little. So I thought OK, while letting him dry I bent down and started making googly eyes at him about 4 inches from his face. Next thing I see is a bright yellow stream shoot up in between my face and Owens face. Julia had a good laugh about it, and said he's going to get you someday.

Jaundice
Sunday afternoon we headed back to the hospital so that Owen could get checked out for his high bilirubin count. We spent the night watching him sleep in a big light bed. He would spend about 3 hours under the lights with his little blindfold on and then we'd have half an hour to feed and hold him until he had to go back under for several more hours. He hated it at first, being naked and flailing around by himself, but I think by the end he started to like it. He got long naps and was toasty warm. We also did not like it at first, our baby crying and we couldn't do much to comfort him! Once he became more comfortable in his bed we were able to catch up on a little sleep. By noon on Monday his levels were low enough that we were able to go home. He's still a little yellow, and we have to have his blood checked a few more times, but the doctors are confident he'll outgrow this.

Round 3 of 7,8? Lost count...
John decided the glow box reminded him of Quantum Leap. I've never seen the show so I have no idea what he's talking about. He would like you to compare though...
More later, after our naps!

Back to the Hospital
So we went back to the hospital earlier to get his re-check of bilirubin and the doctor just called and we have to go back in to get some light therapy for Little Owen. His levels has been going up about 4 point every day. The doctor says he was at a level 18. Back to the hospital we go, its our favorite place, Not!!!

Damm You Bilirubin's
So The Little Martin has the case of some high bilirubin levels which means that he is a bit jaundice. I am taking him in later today to get another test to check out his current levels. Yesterday at the hospital they tested him and said his levels where good enough to come home but they wanted to recheck him today.
Here are a few pics of our little yellow boy.

First Night Home
Last night was our first night home, and boy are we both tired. He was up all night, none of us slept well. I bet our neighbors are not too happy with us. Oh well. Julia says that Owen screamed and cried so much last night that his voice is a little horse this morning. She also thinks that her colostrum is getting to a more milkier consistency.
Here are a few pics from our last hospital day/trip home.

In labor!
(Aly transcribing for Julia)
Hello from the hospital bed! I got here last night for a very "fun", cervix-ripening procedure. They put a pill up near my cervix and let me rest all night. By 8am I was dialated to approx. 2cm. They started the pitocin to induce labor at 8:45am. The doctor broke my water at 12:30pm, and I was dialated to 3cm at that point. At 2pm the contractions were feeling more vigorous and I was at a 4 out of 10 on the pain scale. At 3pm I was given Fentanyl, an IV pain medication. I received my epidural at 6pm, and after that it was magical. I don't know how people labor without this. I've just been hanging out since then. Now I'm dialated to 6-6.5cm at 10pm. The doctor thinks Owen might come around 2am.

Thanks for all the good thoughts and well-wishes. They're very appreciated! Someone will update once Owen is born.

First Post
Hello family and friends!
We decided we should make a blog to keep all of you updated on baby related things. If we had really been on the ball we would have been using this all along to show belly pictures and nursery progress... but we're not. Sorry :)
Just wanted to let everyone know the status of things right now. Basically, my blood pressure is elevated, but not high enough that it's considered pre-eclampsia. To make sure it doesn't get any higher, I've stopped working and am on modified bed rest. This means I can get up to shower and eat, but am not allowed to clean the house. (That's Johns favorite part of the whole thing, haha.) Since I am nearing the end of my pregnancy (39 weeks on 1/19), the doctor decided that the benefits outweigh the risks and they're going to induce labor! We'll be going into the hospital Tuesday evening, January 20th, to start the process and hopefully by Wednesday night we'll have our little guy in our arms! It seemed like the first 8 months sped by quickly and the last three weeks have gone very slowly. I can't believe this time next week we'll be home with a baby!
Also, in case everyone hasn't heard, we finally decided on Owen for a first name. We're not 100% on a middle name yet, but we'll share it when we figure one out.
We're new to this blog business, so hopefully this picture will work. We just took it the other night so you can see how our bellies compare. My maternity shirt and John's long underwear are very similar, so we thought it would make a good shot.
That's all for now, we'll try and keep everyone updated from the hospital!
Love, Julia & John
